A few quick notes about the ROOTS proposal and the interactive website.
What does ROOTS stand for?
Resilience, Opportunity, Ownership, Training and Security — five ideas that guide the proposal.
Why focus on Baidoa?
Baidoa has hosted a large displaced population, while recurring drought and flooding can put pressure on water access, food security, housing and livelihoods.
How would progress be assessed?
The proposed testing phase would assess water availability, flood preparedness, employment opportunities, household livelihood recovery and infrastructure maintenance costs.
Are the case studies completed ROOTS projects?
No. They are illustrative scenarios showing how the proposal could work. They are not presented as completed projects or verified outcomes.
Is the support portal a real payment system?
No. It is a simulated payment experience for demonstration only. It does not connect to a bank, process a transaction or collect payment details.
How does ROOTS relate to existing initiatives?
The proposal is designed to build on efforts such as Barwaaqo, the Somalia Crisis Recovery Project (SCRP) and the Somalia Joint Response (SomJR), with attention to long-term maintenance and disaster preparedness.
